Typography

The best typography is adaptable and can be used in a range of ways within a design.

Our design system's typographic system is defined with suitable scales, styles, and weights to help create clear hierarchies and information architecture that guides users through our products and experiences.

Typeface in digital

We use AIA Everest and Open Sans typefaces on our digital platforms. The AIA Everest font is an important part of our brand, along with our logo, colours, and UI elements.

We use different font weights to add texture and vary the look and legibility of our communications. Noto Sans is the recommended digital font for localisation in languages other than English.

Language considerations

Writing systems
Writing systems can be grouped into 3 categories: alphabetic script, tall script, or dense script. Script size and display style can vary in each category. Different languages' font scale — size and weight — can also vary.

Alphabetic script languages
The languages of Western, Central, and Eastern Europe and much of Africa are typically written using the alphabet.
Content card with taller line heights to accommodate Thai script characteristics.
Tall script
Tall script requires extra line height to accommodate larger glyphs, such as Thai, Vietnamese, Hindi, Sinhala, and Tamil.
Content card with increased line spacing to accommodate dense Chinese characters.
Dense script
Dense script requires extra line height to accommodate larger and denser glyphs, such as Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, and Korean.
